Description

The legend of the Blue Max spans several years and various liveries over its famous history. In the beginning, the Blue Max didn’t have a name or its distinctive German cross. Schmidt hired Don Hardy to build a Ford Mustang for the 1969 season with a staggering powerplant built by the famed Ramchargers. A year later Schmidt added the distinctive Blue Max regalia, debuting at the 1970 NHRA Winter Nationals at Pomona, California, where it set top speed of the meet for Funny Cars at 203.61 mph. The new look and notable speed was the intro into Funny Car history.

While Schmidt who gave the sport the Blue Max Funny Car, Raymond Beadle furthered the Blue Max’s fame with his sensational battles Don Prudhomme in the mid-1970s and three consecutive world championships that followed in 1979, 1980 and 1981 – helping to secure the Blue Max as a household name.

This 1973 Ford Mustang Blue Max, as driven by Richard Tharp, is a great addition to the Legends of the Quarter Mile lineup, and Auto World is proud to offer this limited-edition funny car in this rare version of this iconic livery.
